Apple Orchard Saturday

On a bright sunny Saturday morning, we went to Anderson Orchard for their annual Apple festival...

The orchard was sooooo huge that cars can drive in between the rows and rows of apple trees to pluck the apples...

But we took a bus there, so we had to go on foot...

Apples beware! It is apple plucking season... pluck pluck...

We didn't know there were so many different types of apples! I only know Fuji apples and Granny Smiths, that's all. Other apple names include Jonathan, Akane, Honey Crisp, Golden Delicious... just to name a few...

(for more apple names, go to http://www.andersonorchards.com/apple_varieties.php)

Yummy apples growing on bushy trees... And the reason these apples were still on the tree was because they were way beyond our reach. Most trees were barren from our eye level and below (for obvious reasons)

Lots of apples, but where are the leaves?
We didn't pick any apples from this suspicious looking tree, for fear of any possible, erm, diseases...

We were given a plastic bag to contain our pickings. Most of the apples we saw were smaller than the ones we see in supermarkets. We are almost sure that the orchard owners have plucked away the best apples already, before they open the place to public.

Shisheng about to pick his first apple
(Yes, he found one that he can finally reach... unlike me)

And after all the hard work searching for apples, and plenty of stretching exercise, we headed for the fair... There were booths selling all types of food, made from both apple and non-apple ingredients... Popcorn smell was in the air... and free ice cream! (and no queues, surprisingly!)

The menu... nice and colourful... makes we wanna try everything!

We bought an apple cobbler with ice cream (but after that we realised that we should have just gotten the one without ice cream, and then go and get the free ice cream from the other booth... yeah, we are such cheapo people...)

Then, a bumblebee liked our apple cobbler so much that he decided to dive in and swim in it... We had to be generous and gave him the remaining apple cobbler...

We also had our very first taste of apple cider, which tastes very much like apple juice, but stronger taste. We liked it so much that we bought a bottle home...

Besides apples, there were lots of pumpkins around, in preparation for Halloween...

Pumpkins for sale! Just pick one and put it on a scale to find out its weight...

Alternatively, you can use this as a gauge to find out the approximate price of your chosen pumpkin... (looks cute, doesn't it? :P)

I like pumpkins better than apples... pumpkins are more down-to-earth and approachable... good for vertically challenged people like me...

And you can step all over them and they won't complain...

Plus, they look cuter when you dress them up... :)

wow this looks like so much fun!! i've never heard of honey crisp apples but they kinda sound tasty~~ hehe At the moment I am loving these NZ Rose (or Pacific Rose) Apples. Not sure if they are available where you are but your selection is good enough already lol!

The pumpkins also remind me of this little pumpkin painting kit i saw at Cold Storage yesterday. The pumpkinds in the kit are around the size of our fists! so cute!
