Hazel's trip to the vet

So we called up the vet's office first thing in the morning. The lady on the other line asked a few questions about Hazel's swelling. "Sounds like a bite...", she said...

A bite? From Kopi? I gave Kopi the "stare", but he had that innocent look on his face.

Anyhow, we drove to the vet at about 10am. When we reached there, there was a duck and a green bird before us in the queue. (The duck looks really funny! Reminds me of Joey's pet duck from Friends) We filled out some forms and waited.

Before long, it was our turn. The vet was really good at handling Hazel. She didn't wheek very much (except towards the end, when she got just a little bit impatient)... The vet showed us the swelling, and ran us through what he thought.

It was probably not a bite, coz bites are usually around the ears or on the upper body... and Hazel's bump is on the bottom, which is highly inaccessible to Kopi... (unless Hazel flips over or something)

So Kopi is cleared.

The bump looks quite superficial, so it is prob not a tumour. His best bet is a skin abscess which burst, which explains the dried blood on the fur around the bump.

So what does this all mean for Hazel?

Dr Alexander recommends removing the bump surgically. In fact, his schedule is clear this afternoon, and he can do it for Hazel today.

Wow, surgery... I can't imagine putting Hazel through all that pain... but it has to be done...

(Incidentally, Hazel has had surgery once before, when she was spayed. But that was with her previous owner. Poor girl...)

Right now, she is still with the vet. We are going down to pick her up this evening. I hope she did okay.
