Maisy taking a restLast Friday, I came back home in the evening after running some errands. Just as I entered the door, I heard Maisy wheeking away, as if there has been an emergency. I went to the cage to see what was the matter.
Maisy was standing in front of the spot where she usually drinks her water. Problem is, her water bottle was not there, coz I absent-mindedly left her bottle on the table after refilling it! *shudders* Thanks goodness I was only gone for a few hours... I can't imagine what a dehydrated piggie will be like. And Maisy drinks A LOT of water. I never had to refill the bottle so often until she came along.
Anyway, I apologised and gave her a carrot to appease her.
Kopi is about to ambush the unsuspecting Maisy...Also, Kopi has been teaching Maisy all his bad habits. Kopi is a cage-biter. Whenever I open the fridge, Kopi will sense it and show us that he wants some veggies by biting on the bars of the cage, really loudly. When Maisy first came, she was not a biter at all. A couple of weeks later, (no thanks to Kopi), Maisy finally learnt how to put her teeth around the bars of the cage... No wonder the two of them have been whispering between themselves... They have been planning on this all along! Grr...
Maisy has also learnt to run for her life when we try and catch her. (She used to just stand still and let us carry her...) And she is getting better at finding food now, or at least showing a bit more interest in looking for food. That day, we hid a carrot in a cardboard toilet roll. She poked her nose inside, and it got stuck, so she was walking around with the toilet roll around her snout. It was hilarious!
As the days past, we are getting a better idea of what Maisy likes and dislikes are. So far, she has taken a liking to carrots, romaine lettuce, tomatoes and bok choy (minus the stems). She is not really into capsicum, cilantro, or spinach.
There is a plot of land near our house which residents can rent to grow plants, flowers or veggies. So some of the Chinese grandpas and grandmas have started to plant veggies to sell to the residents here. I bought a big bag of veggies for just $1 from a very nice granny that day, but I have no idea what they are. (She told me it was Fa3 Guo2 Xiang1 Cai4, literally translated as French Fragrant Vegetable) I am not sure if it is from France or if it is fragrant, but the piggies really love it! I am so glad that I managed to find something both cheap and to their liking, coz Romaine lettuce is soooo expensive and high class.
