Today our health minister advises the following:
"As for those contemplating a trip to Mexico, the epicentre of the swine flu outbreak, and affected areas in the United States such as New York, California, Texas and Kansas, the plea from Mr Khaw is: Don't."
Sigh. The law-abiding/minister-obeying part of us is telling us to cancel our trip to CA.
But we have already booked everything in advance. We have checked, and canceling our plans will mean that we won't get anything back. At all.
I asked SS how serious must the swine flu get before we decide not to go to CA. He said: Until there is a travel advisory issued in the US. I thought, hm, that sounds reasonable enough.
So I guess what we can do now is to take precautions and stay healthy. Masks and hand sanitizers are being wiped off the shelves in pharmacies and supermarkets. I am thinking of getting some hand sanitizers for the trip as well. Not too sure about the masks though. I guess it is a good idea to have some for standby, in case we sit next to a sneezing passenger in the plane.
Omigosh, do I sound paranoid or what.
After all, there are (only) 13 confirmed cases in CA so far. And the virus doesn't seem to be as deadly as it was first thought out to be. Sixteen deaths in Mexico. One in US. That is still less than the number of people who die from influenza every year in SG.

hope kenny gets well soon. no fun being sick...
Oh hope you guys get to go and enjoy. Disneyland is the best. Love the parade and rides and churros! Oh, Paul's tutor said that masks are not effective once they get moist, i.e. after the first few minutes of wearing. Is that true??
Thanks! I am looking forward to it too!
Hm I didn't know about the masks, but I found this:
http://www.pandemicflu.gov/plan/community/maskguidancecommunity.html
Look under "Considerations for using facemasks and respirators"
Seems like for both types of masks, wetness will compromise the filtration ability, so I guess Paul's tutor is right to a certain extent. But I don't think the mask will get so wet that it will stop working just within the first few minutes bah, unless erm, the person spits a lot when talking... :)
Oh I see. Oh, if you guys are worried, you could make the Swine Flue Masque on ravelry for your trip. It'll be great for Disneyland!
