Teapots!

Feeling a little blue today. My Vaio which has served me well over the years gave me a Black Screen of Death. Twice. Actually, over the past few months, it has shown me the Blue Screen of Death twice too, but I conveniently chose to ignore it, and instead complained about how it was becoming slower and slower... So today, hubby advised me to save all the important stuff onto his Dell, in preparation for the demise of my Vaio...

Plus, Dr Becker says that we can bring Mommy and babies back to her house anytime now. She has found a place for Mommy already. We will be missing their wheeks and squeaks!

This week in pottery: Teapots!

I have actually made a teapot last semester. Made it for my mum, so it is back in SG now. I waited till now to update it coz I forgot to take a photo of it before it flew back to SG. Anyway, here it is now...

Pretty good for a first try! But sadly, it is not functional! I poked holes in the pot so that tea can flow out from the pot through the holes and out into the spout. However, when the pot was glazed, the glaze layer was so thick that it blocked up the holes! Hence, no tea can flow out of the pot...

Another problem (an aesthetic one this time) is that the handle is proportionately too big for the pot... like an elephant's ear. I actually tried to carve something on the pot, but the glaze was too thick and it did not show up prominently.

This week's lessons requires us to prepare the parts of a teapot, and we will assemble it together in class.

Teapot body, spouts, and lid... the handle will be made on the day itself, otherwise it will be too dry to attach to the pot.

I really like the profile of this pot! Was just playing around my rib tool, and listening to the clay. I did not really have an idea of how the pot is going to be like, which is actually a bad thing... like lack of planning... but it was fun to see how the clay responds when you poke it here and push it there... and on a lucky day like this, the spontaneity pays off with a surprisingly proportionate pot like this.

And here are the spouts. No, I am not planning to put all four spouts on. I made so many so that I can pick and choose to see which one will match the pot the most.

And here is an upside-down view of the lid. (The lid is thrown upside-down off a hump.) Only had time to do one, so I am crossing my fingers and hoping that it fits! And in case I have to make another lid, and I forget the diameter of the mouth of the pot, it is 6.3cm.

Will update again when my teapot is assembled!
