Feeding meds...

We had to give Hazel her meds at 7pm last night. Despite having surgery the day before, she is still hyperactive, and it took us a while to catch her and pick her out from the cage.

Shisheng wrapped her in a towel, like how you will wrap a burrito. She didn't struggle. So far so good, I thought.

Next, I syringed out the minute amount of tramadol (less than a drop), and tried to insert the syringe in her mouth, with Shisheng holding her tight. Surprisingly, she lapped it up with no trouble at all!

Ooh, this is easier than I thought...

But then came the Septra, a whole 0.74ml of it. Hazel fidgeted A LOT... I was worried I was going to poke her eye with the syringe during the struggle. When she finally let us put the syringe in her mouth, I pushed the plunger. Perhaps I pushed too quickly, coz I saw the fur around her mouth become sticky with the syrup.

We gave her a piece of carrot to reward her for being such a brave girl, and placed her back into the cage.

19 more doses to go before we finish the course of antibiotics...

i think some of the meds actually taste nice. One of my hams had a balance problem and she always likes to eat one of the meds. The other she wasn't too keen but she lapped it up anyways. she was the only ham who would lap up her med nicely, and i didn't even have to wrap her up or anything. But the rest~ sigh! Creamer now doesn't even need to be fed, just dap some iodine on her wart. but she struggles all the same. :S

here's wishing hazel a speedy recovery! :D
